Summer is coming, the best season to travel to so many places around the world and the time where most of the people get their desired vacation days. Let us share with you National Geographic’s pick of the best holiday destinations for the summer of this year 2016:

It happens from May to mid July, this city gets illuminated after midnight, the restaurants remain opened and this destination becomes more cultural than ever: the International Music Festival, opera, ballet and free concerts to enjoy under the stars.

Sol Island in Bolivia, the biggest in the Titicaca Lake and born place of Inti, the mythological Sun God. Having the chance to discover the old Inca ruins and getting to know the Aymara indigenous community, definitely worthy. The dry season is from June to September with clear skies, sunning sun and high temperatures.

Channel Islands National Park in United States. Biodiversity paradise with more than 150 endemic species including sea gulls, whales, dolphins and otters. The access to the islands it’s limited but you can just book ir in advance to do a beautiful kayak tour.

Argyll and The Inner Hebrides in Scotland. You can get to the Mull Island by ferry from the town of Oban, visit the Duart Castle and taste a traditional whisky from Tobermory. Enjoy the landscape in the beautiful Eigg Island, spot the red deer or practice surf on the Tiree Island.

The Dinosaur Provincial Park in Canada, where they have discovered fossils of more than 40 dinosaur species. It was declared World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. You can sleep in a near by camping site and do trekking in one of the well marked hiking routes. And of course, visit the excavation site.

The city of Baltimore in Unites States where in June we can enjoy an international festival to commemorate the bicentenary of the 1812 war. In addition to that, we have the Little Italy Open Air Film Fest and several concerts in the Pier Six Pavillion during July and August.

The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore close from the city of Traverse in United Estates. With it’s 140m high sand dunes over the Michigan lake. Painteresque towns, beaches, historical sites and several summer festivals.

The Spencer glacier in Alaska, which allows small hiking and climbing groups from June to September. An spectacular landscape with the Kenai Mountains, ice caves and floating icebergs.

Pawley Island in South Carolina, United Estates. Renting a beach house surrounded by a very relaxed environment, away from commercial area but without being totally isolated. Not far from the Huntington State Beach Park where you can practice fishing or bird watching.
